AMERICA’S COOLEST TOOL FETCHES $10,000 FOR WINNER OF DIY NETWORK’S INVENTOR’S CHALLENGE

 

Special Airs During Cool Tools Marathon Featuring More Than 350 Great Gift Ideas

NEW YORK October 14, 2009 – Jeff Burns may have the coolest undiscovered tool in America…until now. The Alexandria, Louisiana resident was the winner of DIY Network’s Cool Tools: Inventor’s Challenge. Burns submitted his invention along with 250 innovative, ingenious and unique tools for a chance to win $10,000 and the title of coolest tool. In the end, judges including Popular Mechanics editor Larry Webster chose Burn’s SpeedRead, a unique modification to the common tape measure. The one-hour special premieres Thursday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. during DIY Network’s annual Cool Tools Holiday Blitz Marathon. The four day programming event hostedbytool expert Chris Grundy begins at 7 a.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 26. During 60-hours of programming, DIY Network will premiere new episodes of its popular primetime franchise, Cool Tools as well as three new specials.

 
“The Cool Tool Holiday Blitz has something for everybody,” said Chris Grundy, expert host of Cool Tools. “From safety glasses with built in LED lights to a saw that can slice through just about anything, to a magnetic finger that holds screws and nails in place while you work, DIY has some awesome gift ideas for everyone in your life this holiday season. You can get the latest power tools and cool gadgets that will help get their to-do list done quicker and easier.”
 
At 10 p.m. ET, DIY Network launches another brand new special, Cool Tools: The Top 25, featuring a countdown of the best of the best from 2009. Find out what products made the cut as Cool Tools revisits the best gardening tools, power saws, laser levels, specialty ladders, nail guns, tool boxes and a whole lot more. The judging is simple. The winners are the tools with the most hits on DIY Network’s website, www.DIYNetwork.com.
 
Rounding out the night at 11 p.m. ET is another perennial favorite, the Cool Tools: Hardware Show 2009, an insider’s look at the home improvement industry’s hottest product introductions celebrating innovative design, unique functionality and time or labor-saving benefits. Over 1,400 exhibitors displayed thousands of new products at the 2009 show covering 850,000 square feet of exhibit space. If four straight days of Cool Tools isn’t enough, new episodes air every Thursday at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET through December.
